Today, I am officially leaving first trimester behind and I can barely believe it.
It feels like it was just yesterday when we were listening to our baby’s heartbeat for the first time.
We had our 12-week ultrasound last week and we got to see and hear our baby again. This was the first time we got to see a detailed look of the how everything is progressing and let me tell you… the little peanut has grown SO MUCH since last time!! It now has little legs and arms that are flapping around and I swear baby waved at us!! 🙂
Anyways, here’s a little recap as I wrap up the first trimester:
12 WEEK BUMPDATE
Baby is the size of a donut hole (Yum!)
- ANY MOVEMENT?
Nope. - BUMP?
Not a baby bump, more like a food bump. I wake up with a flat tummy and I go to bed looking like I am 7+ months pregnant. - CRAVINGS?
Cereal & chocolate milk! Yup, this babe is taking me back to my college days with the corn flakes & chocolate milk combo. I’ve pretty much had a bowl (or two) every night. Also, anything carb rules my world right now — PB & Jelly toasts, butter croissants, any kind of bread… gimme all of them!!
- AVERSIONS?
Never thought I’d say this but… coffee!?! Since morning sickness kicked in, the smell of coffee makes me queasy. (I’m really hoping this is temporary) Oh… and the thought of scrambled eggs?? Yuck! - PHYSICAL CHANGES?
Besides the insane pregnancy bloat, for the last few weeks my face hasn’t stopped breaking out! Oh and I can attest to the pregnancy rumor about growing boobs (not complaining though). - SYMPTOMS?
Well, I was symptom free for about 6 weeks and up to that point I thought my pregnancy was going to be a breeze. Boy, was I wrong!- First, the brutal “morning sickness” blindsided me and came in full force along with a horrible cold that lasted a couple weeks. (Whoever decided to call it “morning” sickness, clearly did not know what he/she was talking about because it should’ve been called ALL DAY sickness instead). I had absolutely no energy and no appetite. Thankfully, no throw up though.
- To top if off, one day I woke up and felt a horrible shooting pain in my left hip. It started being minor but it quickly grew increasingly worse. Sleeping, getting out of bed, sneezing, going up/down the stairs, getting out of the car… every little movement was just painful. I mentioned it to my OB and she said it is common for some woman to experience sciatica pain so she recommended looking up stretches on YouTube to loosen it up.
- Also, the bloat is REAL! I’ve always suffered from some kind of bloat pre-pregnancy, but let me tell you it is nothing compared to pregnancy bloat. That is just another level.
- However, not everything has been on the bad side. One of the parts I have been enjoying much is the free boob job. Seriously within the last couple months my boobs grew a whole cup size!!
- EXERCISE?
I continued to workout normally up to when I started feeling sick. I tried to push through it that first week but my body was not having it. Plus the exhaustion by the end of the day was bad, so I’ve skipped the gym probably for the last 3 weeks. They say second trimester you get an energy burst, so I’m definitely waiting for it to kick in. - WHAT AM I MISSING THE MOST?
Feeling normal again?? I want this nausea and exhaustion to be gone so I can get back to my routine. - WEIGHT GAIN?
Not much at this point. - MATERNITY CLOTHES/PRODUCTS?
- I haven’t bought any maternity clothes… yet! My plan is to stay away from buying any if possible, but we will see how long I can stretch that. I have been considering buying a belly band for my jeans though. I stopped wearing jeans a couple fo weeks ago because by the end of the day they were just too uncomfortable. Instead, my Lululemon leggings have been my go-to.
- I am currently reading “Real Food For Pregnancy” by Lily Nichols. This book was recommended to me and so far it’s been very informative and helpful.
- Another thing that has helped during this first trimester are these Manuka Honey/Ginger Drops. I found them at Whole Foods first and they have been such help with the nausea.
Looking forward to second trimester! 🙂
